collects the best sites designed for mobile phones together with pda sites
that are compatible in an easy to use directory for on-the-go access.
The site uses basic HTML to ensure compatibility
with all phone browsers.

| All
sites are directly reachable from any phone with a built-in browser. They
do not require WAP configuration or any special software
nor any synchronization with PCs. This makes
Thumptips™ sites accessible from any phone brand. Many
can also be accessed from a desktop PC. Many Network
portals are geared to fee-based services and too many mobile sites require
PC syncing or registration or wap only. Cellphone users require better choices
and more convenience. Operators also need to raise awareness of mobile web
services as many users are unaware of its' existence. As
the mobile web evolves we hope to play a central role in its' growth and
usability. |

site is divided into 3 main parts, Thumb
Thru; for listings, Thumb
Tacks; for news and notes, and Twiddling;
for those idle moments.Thumb Thru is further subdivided into
subsections on separate pages. This is to minimize access time and
download size. It is recommended that you start with
the site menu first then as you become
used to the site you can directly go to or bookmark a desired subsection.The
site menu (accessible from all pages by selecting
) gives a central access point for all sections
and sub-sections. |

the directory area giving links to all sites
grouped in subsections according to subject.
Sites are listed in arbitrary order. Eventually
user rating will be introduced. |

Tacks
is the news, notes and postings area containing
items we believe to be of general interest to the
mobile community and Thumbtips™ users.
This will be expanded to include a user forum and feedback area. |

 Twiddling is
the leisure time activities area. Games, trivia
and other time-fillers are here for those idle moments
on-the-go. |

| How
much does browsing cost? This
depends on your phone network, the amount of data you download for each
page and your price plan. Although the GPRS Internet connection is usually
free you are usually charged a set fee per kilobyte (KB) you download when
you access a page. This includes the text, pictures, sounds, video etc.
on that page. Rates start on average at 0.75p (uk) per KB. This means £7.50
per Megabyte (MB) which is 1000KB. This rate may decrease the higher the
price of the plan you purchase. Those who anticipate high Internet usage
should examine their provider network's rates to see which price point offers
the optimum rate. |

much does Thumbtips cost? Absolutely
nothing! Additionally, all of the links listed in our directory are for
free sites or pages. Some sites do offer premium features for a fee but
this is usually extra to their basic services. One of the prime inspirations
for Thumbtips was the fact that most networks offer some sort of portal
to customers but the links mainly consist of paid content sites. We believe
that, just like the traditional web, there are many resources for content
available without cost. |
| Why
can't I access some pages? Pages
included in our directory must satisfy one of three criteria. 1. They must
either be primarily designed for mobile phones or 2. formatted for PDAs
but viewable on phones or 3. text-only pages that will reformat correctly
on small screens. Some selected pages may contain tags or scripting that
will not work on all models or all networks. At the very least the initial
page linked to from our directory should be readable. There may however
be recent changes or errors on the page which make the page inoperable since
our last check. The functioning of any external page links are subject to
individual browser settings and capabilities. If your phone has a common
browser such as IE or Opera along with its' native browser we suggest you
try both if you experience problems. |
